Schedule Tasks

You can configure the following tasks to run on a regular schedule:

• Running a saved search.
• Generating a report.
• Purging historical data.

Other types of tasks are created as part of other Commander operations. You can also use the Scheduled tasks page to set and manage a schedule for these tasks:

• Schedule global Datastore Scan task
• Schedule Database Maintenance Task
• Puppet Synchronization
• Chef Synchronization
• Change Request Fulfillment, either at a specific time or in the maintenance window
• Apply Rightsizing Recommendations, either at a specific time or in the maintenance window
• VM Maintenance Window, created for each maintenance group
• Run command workflows

Add scheduled tasks

1. Click Add.
2. In the Configure Scheduled Task dialog, select one of the following task types, then click Next:
   • Saved Search
   • Report
   • Bulk Command Workflow
   • Purge Historical Data
3. The steps required for the remaining pages of the Scheduling wizard depend on the task type that you select.

View scheduled tasks

The Scheduled Tasks page displays what tasks have been scheduled.

• Select any task in the list to see the details of the task displayed in the right-hand pane.
• To view all tasks scheduled in a maintenance window, sort the Maintenance Group column. You may need to make some columns narrower to see the Maintenance Group column.
• You can filter the Scheduled Tasks list to narrow your view. Just enter a few characters in the search field. The quick search uses a default set of the most common properties for each tab. Hover over the  icon to learn what properties Commander is using. To choose non-default filters, clicking Show Advanced Filters.
• The User column shows who created the scheduled task.

Run scheduled tasks immediately

• To run a task immediately instead of waiting for when it's scheduled to automatically, select the task from the list, and click Run Now.

  The status of the task is displayed in the Tasks tab at the bottom of the Admin Portal.

  It's not possible to run the following tasks immediately: Apply Recommendation or Change Request Fulfillment tasks scheduled for a maintenance window.

Edit scheduled tasks

1. Select the task from the list, and click Edit.
2. In the displayed dialog, change the configuration on the pages in the wizard as required.

   Although the configurable parameters may differ depending on the type of task selected, for each task, you can modify the schedule on which the task will be run.

3. Click Finish, you're done making changes.

When you select a scheduled command workflow task, you may also edit the configuration of the workflow. From task details displayed in the right-hand pane, click Edit Workflow, then in the Command Workflow Configuration dialog, make the required configuration changes.

It's not possible to edit the following tasks : Apply Recommendation or Change Request Fulfillment tasks scheduled for a maintenance window.

Delete scheduled tasks

To delete a scheduled task:

• Select the task from the list, and click Delete.

• It's not possible to delete the following tasks:
  • Global Database Maintenance task (automatically deleted after it has run)
  • Global Datastore Scan task
  • Puppet Synchronization task (automatically deleted if the Puppet server integration is removed)
  • Chef Synchronization task (automatically deleted if the Chef server integration is removed)
• If you delete an Apply Recommendation scheduled task, the recommendation won't be applied.
• If you delete a Change Request Fulfillment scheduled task, the request must be manually fulfilled again.
