Cost Configuration

Global costs are costs that affect all cloud accounts. You can configure the following global cost settings:

To configure costs for specific parts of your infrastructure, see Configure Cost Models.

Set the default currency

Costs in Commander and the Service Portal are displayed in United States Dollars (USD) by default. You can change the default setting to any of the available currencies.

Commander can work with currencies supported by the European Central Bank (ECB). The ECB provides currency conversion data for 31 currencies, going back over 20 years. Costs are displayed with the currency code.

If you use other currencies or different foreign exchange rates, the Snow Professional Services team can provide you with a custom setup. Contact support by creating a case through the Snow Support Portal.

Once set, the currency change takes effect the next time you log in to Commander. Service Portal users who haven't yet set their currency preference will inherit this default currency.

Currency conversion may result in small cost discrepancies due to rounding during conversion.

Individual users can change the display currency from their Preferences page. See Select your display currency.

Access:

Configuration > Costs

Available to:

Commander Roles of Superuser and Enterprise Admin

  1. Click the Cost Configuration tab.
  2. In the Default Currency section, from the Currency list, select the currency to display.
  3. Click Save Settings.

Custom attribute costs

There are two options for displaying costs for custom attributes:

  • Display total custom attribute costs — All custom attribute costs are displayed as one section of the cost pie chart.
  • Display individual custom attribute costs — Each custom attribute cost is displayed as an individual section of the cost pie chart. This is the default option.

This setting affects costs in the service catalog, the service request form, the request details, and related emails.

For more information on assigning custom attribute costs, see Configure Cost Models.

Storage tiers

Commander allows you to track up to 21 levels of tiered storage costs based on the different types of storage media you use. You can rename any storage tier except for the "Undefined" storage tier. You cannot delete storage tiers.

The Undefined storage tier can be used to track the costs of datastores that you don't want to immediately assign to a defined storage tier. For example, use the Undefined storage tier to track new storage requirements and to create reports on new datastores. After reports are created, assign the datastores to an appropriate storage tier.

You can assign storage tier costs on the Storage page of the Cost Models wizard.
